This is an open forum discussion regarding adopting the OWS procedures for General Assembly procedures to be voted on at the next General Assembly meeting. Anyone may lead off the discussion, but I would like to hear from Sandra regarding addenda and modifications she would like to suggest.

Is there a source document to review that outlines the proposed procedures? It would help to have everything in writing, and somewhat in advance if possible. Thanks.

Yeah, I'd like Sandra to post the link. I don't know where to go.

NYCGA is the official representation of the NYC General Assembly. Most of the documents I printed out the other day were taken from this site. www.nycga.net/resources/I also included this description of the meeting model for Puerto del Sol meetings (Spain, the indignados movement): occupytogether.wikispot.org/General_AssemblyAnd this, a personal favorite: www.nald.ca/library/learning/study/scdvd.htmAnd this attached document, quickly compiled meeting model cobbled together from the wiki on consensus decision making and the Puerto del Sol documents (US uses slightly different terms) Attachments:

Thank you Sandra. Let's all give this a good read and discuss the finer points. Post snippets you like or would like to amend or further define. I'll try to give some focus to this tomorrow. I'm out of time tonight myself.
Thank you for posting, Sandra. Hopefully we can get this hammered out by wednesday's meeting.

After looking through the proposals, I found that many are not yet completed by the OWS. I think we need to come to our own complete proposal or wait for the OWS to complete theirs. Until then, we have only to continue in the same way we have been, as imperfect as it is.

I think it is specific enough to give us the guidance we need. The other documents that Sandra has shared would probably be useful teaching tools. The consensus process is a new culture of organization to which I am not accumstomed. It is quickly becoming a very exciting concept to me, however. In particular, the concepts of the whole group being responsible because the whole group has a say. This is in direct opposition to the passive nature of our current government, wherein our thoughtfully written letters to our representatives are responded to with form letters and no action. It is already an excercise in humility for me, as I have a boss-type role in my day job. And it is an excercise in accountability as well, as I can't simply sit back and let things happen around me. If we are to shape a better future, we will do it together.
